It started and ends with YOU

Hello Everyone!

When December 31st arrives, the 35-year chapter of Kids Who Care at the Scott Theatre will come to a close. But not without a future story being written by those who grew up, or shall we say “Never Grew Up,” at Kids Who Care! What happened here with children, and adults, and teens, and parents, and grandparents, and aunts and uncles, was mystical, magical, and full of treasures. There are no boundaries for that. The friendships realized and practiced remain REAL, and when July 2025 rolls around, we will find each other at the First Annual Kids Who Care Family Reunion! It’s a Promise!

In 1989 when I set out to create a theatre company where the Kids looked like Kids, where everyone we hired believed in Kids, and where scholarships were abundant, one person said “Let’s do it!” Lorie Diaz. Bill Garber, Managing Director of the renowned William E. Scott Theatre, opened the doors to Lorie Diaz and me and never asked for a thing in return. Imagine!!! We are living proof that you can trust the universe with your dreams!

THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU!!! It’s been a total co-creation of children and adults who believe in the impossible! From “Peter Pan” to “Look Up” to “Deep in the Heart,” we produced the REAL THING! With Chad Jung as Production Manager, our technical acuity was superb! With the original business team that stuck it out for 20-25 years, Kathryn, Billie, Pam, Zuilma, Chad, and Andrea, we built a trust that allowed us to excel!!!

THANK YOU!! And to EACH AND EVERY Board Member and Operations Committee that served, THANK YOU!! You nurtured and connected us. We followed the advice I gleaned from Dean Colleen Grissom at Trinity University; “Find a group of people you love and build a life together!” We have! Remember when Harry Potter hearing the next train approach, asks Dumbledore, “If we get on the next train, where will we go?” And remember what Dumbledore says? “On.” And so here we go!

All of us from Kids Who Care have done this at some point, or are doing it now for the first time. We move to the next adventure. The future is not a dimly lit castle in the sky! It is exceedingly fresh, standing ready to bloom! Trust it.

As for me, I plan to finish my book, Entrepreneur KidPower Leadership, get it published, and share what we do everywhere I can. I intend to create children’s picture books from my stories and poems. And, I intend to reach out to my fellow poets, playwrights, and songwriters to get our original musicals out to the rest of the world.

So go! And as you do, there are a few things I hope you will remember: To be early is to be on time … Dress one step up. Be on standby. Be willing to do what you ask! Fall Forward. Keep a positive thought because a positive thought cannot be denied. Take time to rejuvenate your feelers. Always say thank you, and when you can, in writing.

READY? Keep your feet comfortably apart, toes straight forward, your knees loose, your hands loose, your shoulders down, your head on straight, take a deep cleansing breath, release, and… Places Please!

With Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust!
